Why hospitality buyers purchase rooms, not single SKUs

Guest-room wall control fails when switches, scene panels and corridor indicators arrive from different visual families, different app stacks or incomplete cert packs. A trading desk quotes by room count, plate standard and custom print — then sources across partner factories so the shipment still looks like one brand.

Buyer fit: new-build hotels, renovations, extended-stay and high-end short-let with front-desk status indicators. Not a DIY residential pack.

Room power

Key card switch (sample PL-HT-CARD-UK) with optional bell / HVAC interlock narrative — confirm amperage and plate.

Bedside scenes

Scene panel or multi-gang for reading / master off / curtain. Custom icons are the usual OEM request.

Corridor status

DND / MUR indicators as part of the same visual family — art files must be approved before mass print.

Indicative BOM per guest room

Quantities below are sample placeholders for a mid-tier room. Real BOMs change with suite type, bathroom lighting loops and whether curtain motors are in scope.

Gateway and sensors are shared assets. Quote them on a separate line so room-count multiplication does not inflate hub quantity.

Install notes for contractors (indicative)

Before mass install

  • Approve one sample room: glass colour, icon set, card-switch feel, app pairing path
  • Photograph existing back boxes and plate standards per floor type
  • Confirm HVAC / lighting circuits that the key card must cut
  • Align corridor DND/MUR mounting height with brand standards

Common failure modes

  • Mixing EU and UK plates on the same visual family without telling the RFQ
  • No-neutral Wi‑Fi modules on LED loads that flicker (prefer neutral for hospitality)
  • Scene icons printed before art approval — scrap cost on glass
  • Gateway count undersized for Zigbee mesh density

Protocol recommendation for this package

OptionWhen it fitsRFQ implication
Zigbee + floor gatewayMulti-device rooms, sensors, lower radio load on guest Wi‑FiMust quote PL-GW-ZB-MTR class hubs and pairing SOP
Wi‑Fi onlySmall renovations, buyer refuses hubs, sparse device countProve 2.4 GHz coverage at each box; cloud dependency accepted
Matter-ready pathBuyer roadmap requires multi-admin / future proofingConfirm bridge vs native endpoint — never promise without factory writing
Wired / project busLarge SI projects with existing BMSOutside pure Tuya narrative — declare protocol in RFQ

OEM & hospitality art

  • Glass logo: silk-print or laser; white / black / grey families
  • Scene icons: reading, master off, curtain, do-not-disturb, make-up-room — vector files required
  • Corridor DND/MUR lens colours and text languages
  • Manual / quick card languages (EN + market set)
  • Gift box for sample rooms vs bulk carton for mass floors
  • Barcode and carton marks for hotel receiving

Process: brief → sample room → mass production. See OEM / ODM.

FAQ

Is PL-HT-CARD-UK mandatory for every market?

No — it is the sample SKU for UK plate narrative. EU / 86 / US card switches are requested as matching family items in the same RFQ.

Can scene panels be wired instead of Wi‑Fi?

Yes on request. Wired / RS485 / project-bus variants exist through partner factories. State SI protocol early — it changes BOM and cert path.

How many gateways per floor?

Indicative only: density depends on construction, device count and mesh quality. Start from floor plan + device count; do not multiply gateways by rooms blindly.

Do you provide on-site commissioning?

Sample trading narrative does not include local install. We support sample approval, packing lists and documentation for your SI.
